The Annexations layer contains polygons depicting annexations, de-annexations, and conformities of boundaries between political subdivisions within Summit County. It was compiled from various historical records, including the Summit County parcel maps, recorded documents, city and county legislation, and Summit County Engineer and Planning Department documents; and registered as closely as possible to the Summit County parcel maps. Also, several polygons depicting original incorporations are included, but may be exported to their own dataset in the future.
The Annexations layer is a result of a 2005 multi-agency project to document annexations within Summit County occuring after 1960, and determine if those annexations had had their boundaries conformed under Ohio Revised Code 503.7. There are several ways to conform boundaries; by adjusting boundaries to conform to the new annexation, or by erecting a new township. Annexations that adjusted boundaries are indicated by an attribute of the annexation polygon; erecting a new township is represented by a separate polgon.
This layer will be used to track any future annexations, as well.

This dataset was originally compiled in an ESRI ArcGIS 9.1 LIBRARIAN database and is valid for the geometry rules pertaining to regions in ESRI's Coverage format. It was then exported to an ESRI ArcSDE 9.1 geodatabase, where further edits were made, that may or may not have been consistent with the rules for the original Coverage format.
Dataset does not encompass all annexations ever made in Summit County, only those that satisfied the requirements of the 2005 county research project. Annexations prior to 1960 and in areas where an entire township was eventually annexed (such as Hudson) may or may not be included.
This dataset has been registered as closely as possible to the Summit County parcel maps, and inherits the parcel maps' spatial accuracy. (see metadata for Summit County's Parcel Lines layer, and standards for boundary surveys as set forth in the Ohio Revised Code and Summit County Conveyance Standards).
Dataset contains no vertical component.
