To provide the taxpayers and agencies of Summit County a geographic representation of the location and coverage of plat records at a scale and accuracy useful for property appraisal, planning, and analysis.

The Plats layer (formerly known as Allotments or Subdivisions) contains polygons depicting areas covered by plats recorded in the Summit County Plat Records for all of Summit County. Each record represents a single plat filing in the Summit County Records. Associated attributes contain the plat name and the location of the plat in the Summit County Records. Some possible types of plats: new subdivisions, re-plats of subdivisions, condominiums, right-of-way dedications, centerline surveys. This layer is currently under construction.

This dataset was compiled in, and exported from, an ESRI ArcGIS 9.1 LIBRARIAN database and is valid for the geometry rules pertaining to regions in ESRI's Coverage format.
Each plat polygon should cover any land area where the configuration of the cadastre is altered. Utility easements that fall on adjoining parcels, and remainder parcels that are not explicitly defined by the plat are not included in the polygon area.
There is some inconsistency as to whether right-of-way and other non-taxable areas in the platted allotment have been included as part of an allotment region, due to different data conversion and editing standards. The current standard is to include the areas as part of the allotment region. Summit County GIS plans to update previously created allotment polygons containing these "void" areas in the future, as time permits.
Polygons that represent right-of-way centerline surveys are a ten foot wide buffer around the traced centerline, or its approximate location for right-of-ways with no centerline in the cadastre.
Dataset is accurate as known to Summit County GIS. Errors may exist due to spatial inaccuracies, or lack of documentation. Any errors should be reported to Summit County GIS, with supporting documentation, so corrections may be made.
This dataset is compiled from the Summit County parcel maps, and inherits the parcel maps' spatial accuracy. (see metadata for Summit County's Parcel Lines layer, and standards for boundary surveys as set forth in the Ohio Revised Code and Summit County Conveyance Standards).
Dataset contains no vertical component.
Dataset is still in progress. All records contained in the Summit County Plat Cabinet records have been reviewed and added, where documentation was adequate, to re-create the record digitally. Plat books are still under review. Any plats entered into the current recording system (reception numbers) are added at the time the plat is filed. Please report any omissions to Summit County GIS.
Documents that were recorded into the Plat Records that are not actually plats (such as leases, site plans, zoning maps) may not be included in this dataset.
